What Is a Mommy Makeover?

Becoming a mother is one of the most joyous events in a woman’s life. However, pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding also place significant stress on the body and often leave unwelcome changes, such as stretch marks, loose abdominal skin and deflated breasts.

Dr. Greco understands that these changes can make mothers feel self-conscious in certain clothing and swimwear. A mommy makeover combines procedures to reverse the unwelcome effects of childbearing and restore a more youthful, attractive physique.

Common Mommy Makeover Procedures

Removes excess skin and localized fat deposits from the abdomen and can repair torn abdominal muscles. The stomach appears smoother, and the prominence of stretch marks is diminished.

Removes stubborn, localized fat deposits to refine your contours.

Restores a perkier, more youthful bustline.

Restores lost breast volume for a fuller, more curvaceous appearance.

Some mothers also refresh their facial appearance as part of a staged makeover.

Depending on your needs and wishes, Dr. Greco might also recommend combining your surgery with non-surgical procedures, such as laser vein removal and facial injectables. This combination often helps achieve superb outcomes and maintain your results.

Am I a Good Candidate?

You might be a candidate if you are not planning to become pregnant again and have lost most of your baby weight – a mommy makeover is not a weight-loss procedure. Instead, it removes excess skin and localized fat deposits from the abdomen, can repair torn abdominal muscles and can restore a perkier, more youthful bustline. If your breasts have lost volume, Dr. Greco can also perform breast augmentation to restore your curves.

Other factors to consider include your overall health, how much time has passed since your last pregnancy, and whether you have someone available to care for your children while you recover.

Because every mommy makeover is individualized, a personal consultation with Dr. Greco is the best way to determine whether you are ready.

The Mommy Makeover Process

The Procedure

The precise surgical techniques and the time spent in surgery depend on the combination of procedures you choose. A mommy makeover is generally performed under general anesthesia because it involves at least two plastic surgery procedures.

In many cases, all of the procedures are performed in a single surgical session. Sometimes Dr. Greco recommends completing the makeover in stages – for example, if you want to restore your stomach and breasts and also refresh your face with eyelid surgery or a facelift.

Recovery

If you had surgery on your abdomen and breasts, these areas will feel tight and swollen when you wake from anesthesia. Any discomfort will be managed with appropriate medication.

During the first two weeks you will need to avoid physical activity and focus on your recovery, and Dr. Greco highly recommends having someone else care for your children during this time. After two weeks, stitches and any drainage tubes are removed and you can gradually resume light activities. Over the following weeks, your incisions heal, swelling subsides and you regain your strength.

Results

Final results become visible within two to four months, depending on the procedures performed. They are long-lasting and can be extended with non-surgical treatments.
